ANDE offers two training programs. The Orientation Training is offered in late May/early June each year and provides an introduction to impact investing for new hires to the sector. The Investment Manager Training (IMT) occurs around the world and gives an overview of investing in small and growing businesses.
ANDE INVESTMENT MANAGER TRAINING
"The ANDE Investment Manager Training course is a comprehensive introduction to impact investing for any junior to mid-level investment professional, or anyone interested in impact deal making. The course provides some real world case studies that really bring the theory to life, and is delivered by an experienced investor in the space. I would highly recommend it." – Richard Rose, Edge Growth (South Africa 2015)
The ANDE Investment Manager Training course is the only course of its kind which provides a comprehensive overview of investing in small and growing businesses. The course is designed both for investment managers who are actively making investments in SGBs and capacity development providers who are working to support entrepreneurs through the investment process.
The five day course covers the entire investment process – from deal sourcing and due diligence to term sheets, ongoing business support, and exit strategies. Course material is largely based on ANDE member experience and case studies. The class is highly interactive and designed to facilitate group learning among participants. A sample training agenda is available here.
In addition to lecture and group work, the course often includes a site visit to discuss the due diligence and investment process from the entrepreneur’s point of the view. Throughout the course, attendees identify new ways in which their organizations could work together—building new relationships and partnerships.
We have held the course in Brazil (December 2015 and August 2012), Kenya (March 2010 & June 2013), India (December 2011), Mexico (August 2011 & June 2014), and South Africa (September 2015).
"Impact investing is a growing industry and it is important to provide people with the resources they require. In order for the field to continue to advance, we need more programs like ... the ANDE Investment Manager Training to prepare the next generation of impact investors." - Isaac Gross, Capria - Brazil 2015
"The Investment Management Training that ANDE gives is excellent – rigorous, right-sized to allow for ample small group discussion time, and a great way to hear how other firms and organizations located globally are approaching impact investing. John Kohler, my class’ instructor, was very engaging and was quite open to sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience in the field. He later pointed out that the in-class time is more than a full graduate-level class, so it is definitely worth its value. The connections to other students in the training have lasted outside of class, and I frequently reference the course’s materials as we ramp up our impact investment work at ACDI/VOCA. All in all, I highly recommend the training." - Heather LeMunyon, ACDI/VOCA - Brazil 2015
ANDE ORIENTATION TRAINING
The ANDE Orientation Training is a two-day overview of the small and growing business (SGB) sector and doing deals in emerging markets. This training workshop takes place in New York, NY in late May/early June and is geared towards new hires, summer associates, and those new to the sector.
