The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE)

The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a program within the Aspen Institute. ANDE is a global membership network of organizations that propel entrepreneurship in emerging markets. ANDE members provide critical financial, educational, and business support services to small and growing businesses (SGBs) based on the conviction that SGBs will create jobs, stimulate long-term economic growth, and produce environmental and social benefits. Ultimately, we believe that SGBs can help lift countries out of poverty. Launched with 34 members in 2009, ANDE now comprises over 280 members who collectively operate in more than 150 countries.

The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is looking for a Program Coordinator to help support the growth of our recently launched East and Southeast Asia Regional Chapter.

Position Description

You are a “yes, and…” type of person. You are excited about taking on new tasks and challenges and are eager to create great experiences for others, from creating a meeting report to managing a well-executed event. If multi-tasking was an Olympic sport, you’d be a gold medal contender. Not only are you great at the details, but you also understand how small tasks can be essential to big, audacious goals like alleviating poverty. When you arrive at a dinner party, your first question is, “How can I help?” You are the go-to organizer for your friends and family. You often get the feedback that you can express your ideas clearly, verbally and written. You enjoy meeting new people and listening to what they do. You are resourceful and when you see a problem, you jump at the chance to fix it. Your initial instinct when developing a new process is to make it as efficient as possible because while the details are essential, you know that efficiencies are just as important. You love the idea that your organizational and networking skills could contribute to a better livelihood for entrepreneurs throughout East and Southeast Asia region.

Day to day work involves a wide variety of tasks from membership communication to database updates, topic area research and event prep. Each day will be different, but this role will provide exposure to a wide variety of skills experience and topic areas throughout the small and growing business space in developing countries. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leadership of specific project initiatives, such as Learning Labs and Global Accelerator Learning Initiative (GALI), from conception to implementation
  • Building relationship with members and facilitating connections between the network
  • Scheduling of, and organizing logistics for, meetings and networking events for members, as well as topic area webinars
  • Management of chapter administrative tasks
  • Support on the communications strategy and all communication tasks (newsletter, website, invites, etc.).
  • The work routine involves a mix of in-office hours, work from home and external events. Flexible hours and remote work to enable communications with our international staff and members in other time zones is often needed.

Target Profile

The ideal candidate for this role:

  • Has 2-5 years’ experience working in a similar role
  • Is resourceful, proactive and excited to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Is organized, goal-oriented and excels at handling multiple priorities at once.
  • Excels at problem solving, and is an efficient process development guru.
  • Is excited about the opportunity to learn new systems and online platforms.
  • Enjoys supporting our team and our members for the ultimate goal of building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in developing countries to alleviate poverty.
  • Is a true team player and is excited about engaging with many cultures and learning about the sector.
  • Thrives in a startup environment, where the onus is on you to make it work.
  • Able to travel up to 15% of the time within the region and internationally.
  • Is fluent in English. Experience studying or working in the US highly preferred.
  • The position is based in Bangkok, Thailand. All applicants must have current authorization to work in Thailand and speak and write English with ease.
