Breaking into the social impact sector is not always easy. The following organizations and programs might be able to help with developing critical skills, facilitating short term assignments, and placing talent in social impact organizations.

Alterna

Alterna’s Fellowship Program is a trampoline for professionals who want to be on the frontline of the emerging fourth sector—social entrepreneurship. Our Fellowship Program is designed to bring top talent from the most innovative firms, universities and organizations worldwide to get hands-on experience working with local entrepreneurs who lack access to high-quality business services. 

Over the course of 6-10 months, Alterna Fellows provide individualized support to entrepreneurs in three phases of businesses development, accompanying them and guiding them through the riskiest phases of launching a business. Utilizing a methodology built from five years of launching our own social businesses and working directly with entrepreneurs in the community, our Fellows have successfully helped launch and scale over 300 social businesses and have worked with over 375 entrepreneurs in Guatemala.

Our mission is to develop next-generation talent to address social challenges by creating a higher education model that offers future leaders opportunities to get an intensive experience of cross-boundary work, develop practical skills to build their professional toolkit, and understand the personal journey this work requires in order to be effective and sustainable as an individual over time. All this while simultaneously reducing the traditionally high cost of top-class global education. The Amani Institute offers both a Certificate Program on Social Innovation Management - designed to provide next generation talent and leadership to the social impact sector, and customized talent development programs for a range of foundations, social enterprises, academic institutions and non-profits.

Bankers without Borders- A Grameen Foundation Initiative

We partner with Fortune 500 companies and individuals to source some of the world’s top talent and brightest minds and strategically connect our volunteers with high-potential social enterprises and nonprofits fighting global poverty to improve their scale, sustainability, and impact. More than 19,050 business professionals, academics, and students from 170 countries are ready to contribute their time, skills and expertise to strengthen organizations fighting global poverty. This talent pool of volunteers – who donate their time pro bono – enables us to provide top-notch consulting, coaching, mentoring, and training services at a fraction of the market price. Since inception, BwB has consulted on 1,112 projects for 176 pro-poor organizations in 39 countries, helping them increase their organizational capacity and transferring skills and knowledge to their workforces.

The Center for Social Impact Learning (CSIL) 

CSIL stands out among today’s impact-driven career programs because it’s designed to serve the full spectrum of emerging social entrepreneurs—from undergraduates to graduate students to accomplished professionals, offering them both valuable learning experiences in the social enterprise field and seamless transitions from one stage of professional development to the next. With a focus on social enterprise management and impact investing, CSIL offers world-class experiential learning opportunities including a unique career launchpad program named the Ambassador Corps, and the award-winning Frontier Market Scouts fellowship and training program.  CSIL acts as a vehicle for positive impact in communities around the world by partnering with small and growing social sector businesses and responsible investment funds seeking new talent, and then matching them with globally-minded and diversely-skilled professionals. 

Edge Talents

edge increases business performance in start-ups and fast-growing businesses through enabling highly effective teams. From diagnostic tools all the way through to tailored methodologies, they support managers in making better decisions around human capital. They currently work in Brazil, Colombia, India and Kenya. A core of our work is to ensure every individual in a company is in a role that they naturally excel at, gives them energy and where they find it easy to learn new skills. We can help individuals wanting to improve their career choices to be more confident about their strengths, to take better decisions regarding which roles to apply and how to navigate performance conversations with managers.

Impact Business Leaders

Impact Business Leaders prepares experienced business professionals with strong track records for new career paths in social enterprise. We provide a unique combination of personal guidance, orientation workshops and introductions to real job interviews for currently open positions in the field. For companies we are a source of experienced middle managers or technical talent that is essential to help growing companies that are getting sales traction to expand their operations.

Karmany

Karmany is a community platform for professionals aiming to solve the country’s most pressing challenges – offline and online. Our core tool is our innovative forum for job opportunities. This unique space allows organizations and individuals to create profiles to “tell their stories” emphasizing unique social facts. By using algorithmic calculations, we then provide a filtered list of candidates to each employer looking to fill a job.

 

LGT Venture Philanthropy ICats Program

As part of LGT Venture Philanthropy's support to scale social enterprises, the ICats Program was established to provide additional know-how to social organizations. The program connects social organizations in need of professional know-how, and experts with the desire to apply their knowledge in a meaningful way, thus acting as “Impact Catalysts”.  ICats are passionate professionals from all over the world, who want to use their skills in a meaningful way. Candidates are required to have a strong professional background (undergraduate degree, international exposure and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience) as well as outstanding personal skills. ICats usually have a background in Finance, Business Consulting, Marketing and Communications.

The Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies 

Be a Stanford Seed Coach in Africa! (Nairobi, Kenya and Accra, Ghana) The Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies, known as Stanford Seed, launched its second center in Nairobi, Kenya in May 2016. Seed is seeking experienced business executives to serve as volunteer Seed Coaches and Seed Consultants to promising business leaders in our West & East Africa programs in 2017.
